Me too, spent years lying in roads and alleys working on the car, thats why we looked for a workshop! Lying in gutters is another story....

it's not the working outside that bothers me so much, it's the gravel drive. very painful on the knees and very easy to loose the nut, bolts and sockets that you drop

or disc pads... yup, I lost 2 pads off a mini in a gravel drive. Found them 3 months later when they finally surfaced. Was a very wierd situation!

About time i did a bit on this one, amongst the other stuff to be getting on with...



Formerly owned by the legend Keith Winger, this passed to my ownership during the summer. Thanks again to Marshall for adventures to collect.

The car overall is pretty sound where it counts but needs work here and there to get it up to scratch.


To get the measure of this GLS i went for jugular and attacked what appears to be the worst bit first, os rear wheel arch:







oh dear.



Time to cut the nasties out and get it then fixed then.

Outer arch first to see what is going on.


Then the inner


Homemade the repair to the inner arch, didn't need to be too tidy here, just solid


followed by anti-rust agent and some primer and a spot of odd paint I had lying around


Then the outer arch made from a repair panel.




Quite happy with that and just needs a smear of splodge and blending in. That rear panel is next on my hitlist...

got that rear valance done on the os. Tidler of rust.







The front os wing also came off -in three pieces....rusty rusty...

So Her Indoors wants me to crack on with this one, its been a bit neglected, and i'm keen to see this one back on the road too.




Started on the rear ns arch, seems to be the worst one. Rust on the outer arch lip and a fair bit hidden on the inner behind. Thankfully quite localised though.

Marked the bits to cut


Attack.




New outer arch trimmed to fit.


Tacked.


Welded.


Thats ok for me.(phew)




Once happy with the outer arch i lined up the inner arch and welded that in. I used a mk1 Golf inner arch section, fits really well.


And a bit of seam sealer. The rest of the arch will be stripped back for new stone chip.


Now the other one to do and then the inner wings.
