Hmm, not cheap... any ideas how they compare to the aftermarket ones? I presume they're solid (rather than adjustable) and made of steel.

VW original is the 'K' bar

If you scroll down you'll see it on the ground and fitted:

Thanks. The top one is the k-bar (I presume), the bottom one is the anti-roll bar... what is the middle one?

Top one is a neuspeed top strut brace.
Middle is the 'K' bar - or lower strut brace.

Top one is the upper strut mount, middle is the k-bar.
Edit: Pete beat me to it.

Ah yes, I see the Neuspeed on the strut tops in another picture. The k-bar is very different to the other lower braces you see, isn't it?

It's bolted to the chassis as well as the wishbones... as you say you, most aftermarket struts just seem to be 2-point attachments.
Plus it was nice of VW to put a little kink in it for the gearbox.

Sounds like it's probably worth the extra cash for a keeper, then. Another item to go on the list of GTI upgrades.
Dear Father Christmas, I know you've only just been, but.....

They do come up on ebay occasionally. One came up just after I bought mine from VW after I'd waited 6 months.

That should be fine as long as the wishbone mounting are still straight. I've had one of those on my car for years with no issues at all.

Cool thanks for that Tim
Am I right in thinking it bolts onto the front of the wishbones?
I'm presuming the wishbones are straight, how difficult a job to straighten them if not??! I guess then I'd have to get wheel tracking adjusted again afterwards

Jimbob, let us know when you have fitted it as to how much improvement you notice.
I too am upgrading suspension (40 mm drop Eibach's and shocks still to be decided upon) and I am wondering whether to fit one of these, in grey though, not red ;) as per =

Also wondering if rear ones are a noticeable improvement ?
