Apparantly a Death Trap...
Re: Apparantly a Death Trap...
I've probably taxed worse.
Look on the bright side, while it may sound bloody awful it isn't catastrophic. Short of the body rotting away and coming away from the chassis almost anything can be repaired given a bit of time and effort and despite what people may think parts can be picked up pretty cheaply if you're willing to look round. ANd people here are normally willign to chip in with some time and effort in return for pies and beer.

thanks for that. non takenfonzooorooo wrote:As above, most mechanics suck.
would be more sense to do it the other way round. if it pulls to one side or the tyres are wearing on one edge, get it tracked properly by a decent wheel allignment centre such as pro-tyre. they will make sure that straight ahead is in the middle of the steering travel, and then straighten the wheel if needed. unless it has been taken off and refitted wrong, there should never be a need to take the steering wheel off to centre itduncancallum wrote:as said 24mm spin the wheel round to straight, then get it tracked if it still pulls.

Re: Apparantly a Death Trap...
on a scirocco the tracking is set of 1 rod end and as such you end up with the wheel out.
NB-unless you have modded the rack to give an ajustable n.s arm

bearing in mind that even the newest rocco is pushing 20 years old, there will be very few, if any, that still have the original non-adjustable arm on ;)

Re: Apparantly a Death Trap...
My last one did.
Confused the speedboat out of the tyre monkeys. Apparently last time they took a steering wheel off to align it after tracking it caused "all sort of problems"..... so I did it myself before I took it off the ramp with them watching

Re: Apparantly a Death Trap...
mine four... but it was goosed and needed replacing .. but then most of hte underside needed replacing when I got it... knackered (as in snapped, not cut) springs on all four corners... shocks leaking or completed in their leaking cycle, bent wishbones, bushes shot to hell and back, gear linkages - held together with gardeners twine. It drove like a wallowing hippo... but a couple hundred quid later and a fresh MOT... shazzam, beauty drive!!
