If you’ve read my initial post you’ll know how delighted we were with the condition Lily was in when we bought her a few weeks ago – so good in fact that we’d really like to keep her standard as much as possible. Whereas our other Scirocco, Poppy, will certainly be modified somewhat.

So, what about Lily, well I thought I’d start by removing the few non-standard touches on her that I’ve been able to identify so far – starting with the tape on the rear lights, bumpers and grille.

The rear lights had silver tape around the edges and red tape placed within the recessed grooves on the indicator units …



Here’s the indicator unit halfway through the removal process …



And the finished ‘new look’ rear …



The tape on both the front and rear bumpers was along the leading edges, but luckily it came away cleanly …



Next, I turned my attention to the front grille, which as you can see had tape all along the slats. This is it before I tried to remove it, which turned out be more difficult to achieve – probably because this area is more exposed to heat?



And now the front end with the tape removed and with the gluey residue cleaned off …



Bye, bye tape …

That was only tape in the grooves?

Makes me wonder why it wasn't on the raised parts then. It's only when painting that it's easier to put it in the grooves, because you just paint and wipe.

Putting tape on it's the same amount of work either way that you do it.

Looks better now IMHO.

It took some poor soul 6 hours to get that right... and you whipped it off in 20 minutes. Shame on you, lol. You should have a ritual tape burning to acknowledge their graft

I’ve been thinking for a while now about the clear indicators on Lily. Personally, I like them, but just not sure I like them on her given that I want to try and keep her pretty much standard …



So, after much deliberation I took them off and here’s how she looks now with the original units fitted …



Got to say now I’ve changed them over I’m really liking how she looks. The eagle eyed amongst you might also spot that I've removed the eyebrow spoiler, but I think I might put this back on as I like the clean lines it provides …



I did hit a couple of snags though whilst doing the swap. Firstly, what began as just a cracked adjusting screw on the headlight frame completely fell apart …



Secondly, I’m just not happy with how the rubber seals went back into place around the indicators. The top sections almost position themselves and are okay. However, the piece that runs along the bottom of the unit and up the side of the headlight seems to have a mind of its own.



If anyone has any tips on getting these to sit right please let me know! Oh, and if you have a spare adjusting screw I could do with hearing about that too.

Just a little update from the North East mini-meet yesterday ...



Thanks to the spares emporium, which operates from ianaudi4's boot a new adjustment screw was supplied and fitted - thanks guys!

I also got a set of vinyl stickers for the B pillars so I can repair the passenger side which is ever so slightly damaged.

As for those rubber seals around the indicators, seems they weren't original ... just something that a previous owner had fitted. So no wonder I couldn't figure out how they should go back together.

Love the standard look of this car, well clean looking. I'd be tempted to fit immaculate standard steels and black centre caps but either way very nice

Thanks for the compliment ... always nice when someone says nice things about your car.

As for the vinyl I'll certainly post some photos, but I'm not sure how quickly I'll get around to doing it.

I'd like to say that's because I'm just too busy. However, something tells me I might just be putting it off because I'm really worried about at worst damaging the paint and at best making a pig's ear of it.

I think a few people on here have used a heat gun and toffee wheel in a drill to remove the residue. That said a mapp gas blow torch and welding gauntlet seems to have done the trick on mine. But I wasn't too worried about paintwork in my case

Next time I'm down the farm, I'll have a go with brake fluid CLEANER. It's pretty damned good stuff for removing most things (including crayon off vinyl painted walls, snot off chairs.. I've yet to test it on weetabix residue though! Can you tell I have kids )

Mine aren't going back on, but in the interests of science I shall experiment (and report back!!)
