forgive my ignorance, but when did vw make the mk1 with square headlights??
was it the early mk1? or were they just used for racing??
remember seeing them on some mk1's but always thought they were mk2 headlights fitted to them,

early (non uk market) base models came with the 'TV' lights.
check the 90's Ian Kuah book 'VW Power and Style'

The VW Junior Cup was staged in Europe, mainly Germany. The cars are all 1976 GTI's, all identical vehicles aside from the race numbers and the bit of colour at the front of the bonnet. Don't know why the square 'TV lights' from the base model were used, guess it was an aesthetic choice.

That's awesome. Could you please please please please please please please please take a pic of it for us and post it on here? I've been trying to get a copy of that for eons. As have lots of other people on here. Thanks in advance if you choose to take on this mission. You will make my Christmas and birthday for the next 20 years.

The mags that I mentioned from ebay Germany are on the way to Dr. Dub's dwellings as we speak. Naturally I will scan them and post them when they arrive.

Anyone got a really big scanner??
I'm very aware about the copyright on this image (I used to be a profesional Technical Illustrator myself).. so we'd have to be careful, but if someone has the facility to scan A1 then maybe we could make some copies for the club. I'll ask a couple of printers I know.
