Scirocco GT Restoration

A sunny day today so I did some little bits and pieces. I wanted to do more but time just flew. I replaced the passenger side wing with a newer model one, so the wings both have indicators on them now. I had a few problems.

Jeez the body kit is hard to get off. I had to get the old kit off the old wing which took ages. I kept thinking I was going to snap it but after about 30 minutes it was off. Does anyone have any tips about the best tool to use to get it off? Luckily, the arch was fine under the kit, so I now have a solid spare arch if I need it.

The next problem was the fitting of the new wing. I just can't get it to line up properly! It is on now but when the bonnet is closed the end of the wing sticks up above the cloesd height of the bonnet. Also, the gap between the door is greater than on the other wing. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated, as I want it to look neat!

I put a new aerial in as well at the same time, and cleaned the interior up a bit. New wiper blades on as I am hoping to go for a MOT soon. I will soon be getting 256mm brakes off my mate, as he is upgrading to 280mm ones.

So, progress i suppose, but stilted as always!

So while I am waiting on some parts and my friend's expertise, the 256mm brakes upgrade is still on hold. I have been doing some more bits and bobs to keep me busy. I bought a charger for my battery as it was completely dead. After 3 hours on a 'fast charge' it could power the lights but no more than that. How long should it take? This is yet another area where I have no idea.

So what did I do today. well, the foglights are gone, they were knackered anyway and I think I prefer the look without them. I spent some time cleaning the engine bay, lots of degreaser and elbow grease got it from this:

I thought it came up well. It revealed some surface rust - how worried should I be about it? I didn't take any bits out to do it, I just cleaned the areas I could access. I did, however remove the green ball of mystery and clean around it and buffed it up. I also found some good splitrivets so put the passenger side shelves back in. Removed the doorcards to see what the mess was like behind them, nothing catastrophic. I also hoovered off the insulation from the underside of the bonnet, as it kept falling off anyway.

I am thinking of relocating the lighter socket to the center console, I have a blank plate next to the ashtray that I thought would be perfect. Does anyone have experience of doing this? I was hoping it would be pretty straightforward. My aim of having the car on the road by April 14th looks to be a bit optimistic at the moment, but at least I'm closer than I was this morning :)

PS. this is officially a restomod now, not a restoration :p

looking good! i love seeing rocko revivals. good job on the dash. i will have to replace mine at some point. i do have a spare just never the time to do it.
