Well after slipping a note through the door i got a phone call last night and a deal was done. :yahoo:

Payed a bit more than by original £100 offer but still worth it ithink?

Hopefully going to tow it home today sometime so i'll put some pic's up later.

Here we go then... This is what it looked like when we got it home.

Pretty grubby after been parked up for three years so it was out with the jet wash and now it looks like this...

The battery was unsurprisingly flat as a fart so i breathed a bit of life into it from the polo.
Image
We pushed it backward and forward in 5th gear just to give the engine a gentle wake up and then pulled off the ht lead from the coil to pump a bit of oil around before it sprung, hopefully, back in to life.
The oil was lovely and clean and the plugs and fuel canister look like new so it looks like it may of had a service before it was parked up.
Another bonus is the complete exhaust appears to be new.
So on the first turn of the key it jumped into life.... and then cut out.
A couple more goes and it was ticking over lovley.
Feeling quite confident with it now so going to book it in for a MOT next week. Best get a new battery first.

superb 'find'. nice one.

amongst all your usual MOT pre checks might be worth syphoning and checking the filler neck and fuel tank contents for corrosion before refilling with nice fresh fuel.
Definitley check the brakes and the boots/gaitors to avoid any unnecessary MOT failure.

assuming all is well in the rear axle mount dept then you have got hold of one of the most desirable of the mk2's without doubt. :vcool:

Just been going through the paper work that came with the car and found the original bill of sale from 1982 when the first owner paid £7130 for it.

The second owner from whom i have brought the car from paid £5395 for it in 1985 when it had done just 13000 miles.

There are other invoices and old MOT's aswell.

In 2003 the milage according to the oldest MOT was 47971.

The next mot shows the milage at 49431. This was in 2006 and it had a service and a new horn fitted at the same time.

In 2008 the milage at the time of the MOT was just 49956 and it had another service!

The mileage today is 49958.

I checked the fuel filler neck before trying to start it as i had a mk1 Golf GTI a while back with a rusty one that caused loads of trouble. When i took the fuel cap off there was a really srong realese of pressure that i guess means it's air tight.

Good find. Should scrub up great.

That large washer bottle for the headlight jets was probably the best mod from a practicality point of view that I've ever done on my Scala. I don't know why it wasn't included as standard instead of the tiny 1.5l bottles.

Little thing I know, notice that there's a lot of 'greenery' growing on the car so you might want to check that your washer system hasn't become blocked with algae.

Yeah, check the cv boots. Mine just failed on those and i'd only checked them both 3 months ago so i imagine it's likely to need doing. One point to note, apparently early alpine white is different to late alpine white. Looking at the rust on that sill, you'll be doing some paint matching.

Nice find, and good luck with the MOT.
I bought an 83 GTI in 2001 just for the engine, but it was in such good condition i thought i'd put it in for an MOT, it failed on the horn, the earth wire had snapped!
