Nick - the speakers date from 1990 (originally fitted to original A20 GTX) and are just mounted on the speaker grille suitably cut so that the speaker/grille becomes a single unit that pops out as normal when removing door card. They, and the tweeters either side of the console (not the ideal spot i know but hey ho) are driven by an amp behind the console.
I'll take some shots next weekend.

Sure Rob. I've a few posts on the audi forum I use - so hopefully I'll source a set of Coupe/80/90 gauges.

gauges installed are current, volts, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp and inlet vacuum
Thats class! Looks like it should be in a cockpit! :pilot:

Oh... and in the pic above - where do you get those lovely "SCIROCCO" embroidered mats? They're the mutts nuts.

Well, I'm picking up a set of VDO gauges from a local Audi Coupe thats breaking. Quite please that as an Audi Coupe fan, I'm getting to put some of my favourite dials in the rocco. Should pick them up on Friday.

So... next stage.

1. Gauge mount panel. This looks neat - http://www.gakmotorsports.com/gaugepanels.htm Any other atlernatives?

2. Senders. By frig VDO ones are dear. Are there generic (aka cheap) alternatives? Or is VDO best to stick with? Any good suppliers?

3. Sender position. I'm clueless. Never done this before. I know the pressure sender goes where the idiot light wire goes at the engine side, but where exactly is that? And where do you mount the oil temp sensor? My engine is the 1.8 carb'd model (sorry - no idea what engine type that is - its a 91 GTII with a Weber)

Thanks,

Johnny

2. Why don't you get the senders from the Audi coupe you are getting the gauges from? That way you will be sure that they match. You need VDO senders for VDO gauges or you will get incorrect readings as other makes of senders are calibrated differently.
I have found ETB Instruments in Southend to be the cheapest place to get new VDO senders. You will have to ring them though and specify thread size of 10M x 1, single or twin pole sender depending on whether you want to keep the dashboard warning light for which you need the twin pole sender and 5 or 10 bar pressure - depending on which gauge you get. ~They will have to order, as they don't list that thread size on their website or keep it in stock.

3. Pressure sender fits on the side of the cylinder head above the gearbox in place of the factory low presure oil sender, and the temperature sender usually fits on top of the oil filter housing. You have probably got a blanking screw fitted at the moment.

The Audi its coming from is already broken and away - these are just from a blx of spares he has left. I wonder are the fittings M10 x 1 anyway - must find out as I know a few contacts that break Coupes. Failing that, I'll check out ETB. Thanks for the heads up.

As for the sender locations - glad to hear that the temp is probably there but capped off. Saves any trouble.

Just need to work out in my head how you wire stuff into the fusebox. I've only really done car audio before and that either used existing wiring or ran a fused cable direct to the battery (for an amp/sub). I'd like to wire these gauges properly to the fuse box. Any tips/advice/links? Do you simply find a connection thats switched and tap into it - or can you connect to a spare fuse location and add your own fuse?
