Yup, but not running the standard air box dude, got a pancake filter on tho go but its not one for a VW, so had to "encourage" it to fit. Not too tall so clearance is fine and it all fits together nicely

Ah, cool What was the filter orginally for? The only hesitation I have is people tend to avoid pancakes cos they drag warm air straight from the engine I suppose it's nothing that a few cold-air feeds can't cure though, once the car is up to speed. Might be worth the compromise

No idea what its for mate as I got it from another member on here a few years back. Box it came in has the part number RA-0970. Dunno if its worth having a look on K&Ns site and searching that number to see what comes up dude?

In terms of performance, didn't notice an increase or decrease to be honest! Sorry geez! Only got it so I could run the upper brace.

You will have to make the hole bigger to fit on the carb, but with this pancake you will be able to run an upper brace

Right, after a few hours on Friday I managed to get the front lower brace finished. It's a simple looking thing, basically a copy of the OMP ones that pop up on . I made it to fit between my control arm mounts so I knew it was the right size. I turned up some bosses to hold the bolts, scalloped a couple of tube ends on the milling machine and then got the whole thing TiG welded together. Then I shotblasted and powdercoated it in black to stop it rusting and to keep it discrete. I managed to forget to turn the air feed to the mask on when using the powdercoater, so had to hold my breath and run away from the huge cloud of black particles that were attacking me! Rookie error.
Over the weekend I finally got round to fitting it, and while I was at it I replaced the front wishbones (and some powerflex bushes) and the sump pan for a shiny new one. Some pics of the brace:




I'm really pleased with the way the brace has turned out, and it fits like a glove! Combined with the new bushes and wishbones, the car is a completely different animal. Turn in is much sharper, mid-corner stability is improved and there's a bit less roll from the front end . Now all I have to do is replace the rear beam bushes and junk the knackered old suspension!

I noticed a big difference, probably not in road holding, but definitely in feel and accuracy of the steering. The old rubber bushes were knackered on mine, and there was a wallowy feeling when cornering, felt much more boat-like and not that stable under hard cornering. Now it's a lot tighter, feels steady in the corners and I've noticed no difference in ride quality at all.

What bushes did you put on? I'm interested in doing the same (mine is very wallowy / twitchy in the corners) how much were they in total?

I got some powerflex ones from C&R enterprises on ebay. The front wishbone kit was £60. There might be some left but i think that was a special price.

I asked about making a lower brace abit back... for any body else who may be wanting to do this - these were some Pics that "KITT" off the old website posted up 4 me.





I still haven't got round to making anything yet, but i'm going to try and do it like this...

im really wanting a front lower brace but can't find one anywhere! i searched ebay and it just comes up with ones for bmw ect and google is even worse just brings up rubish about installing it.
anyone got some links?
