I personly wouldnt worry to much about the lump, more so if this a 8v G60 lump.
One main thing i would ask for is if and when the charger was last serviced / rebuilt. You can get a heavy bill for a worn one.
Engine wise those pretty much as our 1.8 's, solid engines, oil leaks pretty much in the usally places. Have a look about the engine for any new bits like the crank sensor / knock senosrs etc. Tese little bits can add up as well. Have a look if he has any service history for it as well. cam belt etc
Also make sure the engine is nice and cold when you get there, when it starts keep your eyes and ears open / peeled for any blue smoke, or knocking / tapping.

kompressor eh?

Those are the eaton chargers used on the newer vws and kompressor mercs. You can get conversion kits that allow you to run them on a 8v g60 engine. Much much more reliable than the g60s! I know alot of the americans run them on there corrados! Basiically consists of a chip and brackets. Have a search on google.

You can build a 16v g60 engine if you have the money. Again searrch google for 16v g60. Consists of a 16v engine with most of the g60 ancillieries, loom, ecu etc. I dont see why you couldnt use a eaton charger instead of the g60. You would need some seerriioss cash to build the thing!

If the guy isnt bullsh1ting you then grab it! If you dont want it ill buy it right now! lol
