I personly wouldnt worry to much about the lump, more so if this a 8v G60 lump.
One main thing i would ask for is if and when the charger was last serviced / rebuilt. You can get a heavy bill for a worn one.
Engine wise those pretty much as our 1.8 's, solid engines, oil leaks pretty much in the usally places. Have a look about the engine for any new bits like the crank sensor / knock senosrs etc. Tese little bits can add up as well. Have a look if he has any service history for it as well. cam belt etc
Also make sure the engine is nice and cold when you get there, when it starts keep your eyes and ears open / peeled for any blue smoke, or knocking / tapping.
