fairford. about 10 miles the other side of cirencester. is it you that lives just off slad road? seen a rocco parked there a few times when i've been over that way

i took the bakes apart and you were spot on about the front pads being glazed, passenger side had a crack in the pad so am going to replace them with some standard pads. the only reason i can think as to why this has happend is that they have overheated, is this the case? also could this be caused by the back ones not working properly so the front ones have to work harder resulting in the glazing?

The rear brakes put up very little braking force, so as long as they aren't out of adjustment leading to a long pedal forget them.

Sounds like you've glazed the pads, from overheating most likely. Green Stuff are pretty rubbish and I wouldn't ever use them again. Sold as a fast road pad is a bit of a joke... You'd be better off with some standard ATE pads, or if you want something more fast road, some Mintex M1144s.

Its some kid i know selling it, says hell probly sell it for £400. Doesnt really know jack about cars as i'm sure you can see from his ad. Im considering going over and having a look myself but i cant really afford it. The person he bought it from told him he thought it was the oil pump??? yet when i asked him if the oil light works and/or comes on he had no idea.

Know of any good scrappies over your way, i struggle to find any with roccos/old golfs in usually end up going to Twigworth or Volksmania but then you gotta pay premium cos they do all the dirty fun bit.

i've never been particularly keen on twigworths, and had a falling out with them last year.

i've used volksmania a few times, bought 2 complete cars from him this year. normally go to harry bucklands in churchdown

i suspect the reason the pads have glazed and cracked is that they are utter shite* i'd replace them with a decent branded "standard" pad from the likes of pagid or mintex. if your driving style is more, erm, fast (i.e. you drive like a muppet all the time) then go for some pagid fast road pads (if you can find them) or the intex as already mentioned. remember to let your new pads bed in - gentle braking only for the first couple of hundred miles. this is particularly important with fast road pads.

i rang EBC to tell them what had happened and guess wot they sed "weve never heard that happen before" lol course you havent! will go for some mintex pads. cheers for the input guys and ile let you know how i get on with the new pads. (once ive bedded them in)
