Ok so more progress!

After another compression test there was very little change so the head came off

I was VERY surprised and pleased with the health of the engine, no lip or scoring on any of the bores, no cracks between the cylinders, leak down test on the bores saw very little drop even after 15 minutes, head was much the same story, zero drop on the leak down test and no hot spots etc on any of the valves

Culprit...head gasket, it was absolutely shagged, and I think possibly incorrectly fitted also as it was a bit munched up...on cylinder 3 lol

So, while I’ve got it off, head is having a bath, skim, new seals and followers and reground valves, seems silly not to at this point!

Great news, glad you've sorted it and it didn't require a full rebuild or replacement engine :) Well worth doing overhauling the head whilst it's off though - I bet you can't wait to build it back up and drive it?! :)

Good to hear it’s just a head refurb, well worth doing as those rubber valve stem seals do go hard and let oil past over time.

Just an overdue update for those who offered assistance, refurbed the head, rebuilt and fired up first time

Now have a smoking issue when warm, so into the next issue
