Mk1 golfs and cabriolet uses the same set up so that may widen your search?

I've had Bilstein B4 and Eibach Pro-Kit springs on my Mk2 for nearly 4 years and 30k miles without any issues.

When I bought them, Bilstein said they were a suitable match for Eibach lowering springs and Eibach said their springs were suitable for B4 dampers.

This combo is the best I've tried on a Scirocco for a car that is used as a daily as so needs to negotiate speeds bumps and pot holes etc.

I wonder have either Bilstein or Eibach changed their specs since 2012?

What bumpstops are you using?

On the phone to both, Eibach said they didn't know which dampers were matched to pro-kit, but that the kit was matched to mk2.

Bilstein said that the b4's were only a direct replacement for OEM dampers. Not for lowering springs. B8's were a match to pro-kit, but b8's are about £400 - £500....!!!

Personally I feel the lowered stance gives much better handling.

Not got round to trimming stops yet... pics I promise

I think a B4 damper is just a basic gas damper that is valved about 10% stiffer than standard. I got them for Balance Motorsport.

The Eibach springs I got from Graham Goode Motorsport and spoke to the man himself about the springs.

I must have read somewhere that they're matched together. The springs were on the car with Boge Turbo Gas first for a few months. Horrendous set up. It was on its bump stops over anything other than a slight undulation.

Which prompted the swap to Bilstein...

As for what bump stops I'm using, I can't tell you other than they'll either be standard VW or whatever Bilsten supply, if indeed they do supply bump stops with new dampers.

If you want me to dig out the part numbers from the receipt from Balance Motosport just ask. I remember it was very detailed at the time!

I had the same problem with my dust cover but I'm running standard springs and did have Boge turbo gas shocks which only lasted 2 years till they was warn out as when I removed them I could easily move them by hand.

I thought the shock was OK and fitted new dust covers.

Then a couple of weeks later this happened.
You can see there is only a small gap between the bump stop and shock even with standard springs.

Jeez. Yeh that's really surprising. Perhaps that explains why the original stops were torn to shreds when I first took them apart.

Seems a bit odd, but I'm kinda new to all this...
