Re: Farting speakers!
Trimming back the grilles would do it i'll admit but knowing my luck i'd break em in half whilst doing it! The spacers you used, are they hard plastic or rubber?

Re: Farting speakers!
alternatively you can fit the front speakers from behind the door card which i did with mine. its a bit of a long job because you will have to remove the door cards and use the speaker fitting kit to make it fit right but it works.
the rears as you seen mac i mounted on top of the shelf rather than under it.
for spacers i have used thick fuel pipe cut up to 5mm lengths so looks like fat rubber washers which works well.
absorbs any rattles and squeaks.
if your coming down to collect the rubber side strips i can always help you try make them fit better?

Re: Farting speakers!
I do like both of your ideas James, even tried the front speaker one, damn magnet was too big and I couldnt bring myself to break out the hammer to do the necessary!
The rear though, ive got rubber washers (kind of) but I need to get some of those speaker grilles that you have to protect them, I get them and im away! THEN I might even ask you to build me a small sub!!
On a slightly unrelated note, im also after a facia for my stereo as the one I found simply doesnt fit, lugs are in the wrong place (black rectangular piece of plastic that fits on the front to tidy it up)

Re: Farting speakers!
Yesterday I pulled the rear 6x4's and did what James has done, mounted them from above using the existing carpet as a "spacer", I also did away with the underside speaker "cradle" and the top grille (its too flat and was pressing against the centre of the speaker), anyway, thats kind of solved it, still a bit of rasping at higher volumes but a lot better than it was!
Now all Ive got to do is find some suitable 6x4 grilles as they are quite exposed at the moment!

Re: Farting speakers!
Do you know what fella, think im going to live with the door speakers, now ive got two sets of speaker covers ive now trimmed two back so that they can actually close without popping off, with the addition of some strategically placed rubber bits, should sort that out.
Btw, if you do come across any 6x4 speaker grilles (parcel shelf jobs) or a spare stereo facia, im defo up for either or both!
