Watching this one with interest. Is that the Kamei X1 front spoiler I can see on the passenger seat?

The scene needs more X1 Roccos. Great to see another one being resurrected.

Gonna fit it monday, but personally unsure about the look? Maybe it will grow on me.

I prefer them without body kits, but taking the kit off could be a pain, and then you might find why they put it on in the first place, but hopefully it's OK underneath.

Go on - get it MOT'd. It'll give me a push to get mine done as well :D

Spent today on the car, yesterday was a wash out my way.

Have fitted some steel wheels - only for the tyres as they actually hold air.
Fitted the front part of the kit again, sadly found some damage to it.
Got the filler cap off, as the previous owner had lost the key
Chucked 10l of petrol in the old girl
Re fitted the air box
Re secured the alternator as for some reason the hex bolt was missing?
Drivers seat stuck on runners, now sliding again.
Fixed the bonnet catch, so it now shuts correctly.
And quickly dragged a sponge over the old nail.

Also found the tarantula centre caps and £1.07 under the carpets, every cloud...

Oh, and sunday lead to me picking up some storm leather door cards from Tris, the previous owner of one of the cleanest VWs in the country? Certainly for my money. Lovely to see old friends again.

The only pic I have of today, mainly because it made me smile, and the mother laugh quite a lot...



MOT booked for tomorrow at 12, will update with the findings.

Well today the nail went for an MOT...



To mine, the testers and garage owners amazement, she failed on...

Hazards not working
Quite a few lights not working
Couple of brake hoses
Wipers not working
Filler neck insecure
Exhaust leaking
Broken headlight clip

And unfortunatly a 2p sized hole in the nearside sill.

But thats it. Blown away to be honest.

Oh, and in a shameful MCM rip off, this car has been christened Gramps.

Off to buy parts.

Should be on the road soon, then!

My Old GL had a lot of those issues too.

Wipers not working (Turned out to be the stalk...Replaced with a polo one and it worked fine)...You can test if this is the same issue by pulling the screen washers on, if the relay kicks in and turns the wipers on, it's probably the stalk

Lights Full beams not staying on (was the actual switch...Bit of sanding of the connections and it sorted it)

Rear lights going mental (Dodgy wiring in the cluster...Just cut it out and rewired)

Did have issues with the indicators too, I think this was a relay.


Had an exhaust leak too!

Got most of the lights working on Saturday, just need to look at the indicators.

Also changed one of the rear clusters as it had a load of cracks...



To this one, much better...



And Mr Royal Mail dropped these off too...



Currently thinking I'm going to run my GTI headlights, will drag these out of storage for a refurb and test fit, hopefully on Saturday

Which I did, just need to repaint the light holder frames, also one is a little warped. Added some yellow tint I had gathering dust...



And how the front looks with the kit and head lights fitted...





Had to change an indicator over too for one I had "in stock".

Thinking these suit the body kit more.

So, all lights now functioning correctly, but the indicators will require further investigation.

Next job will be the wipers and heater. Hopefully simple jobs.

Fairly nice day round my way for the first time in what seems a month.

Got the passenger seat moving freely again, after the slider bolt had stuck inside its tube, just like the drivers side. A bit of aggression with a pry bar sorted it tho.

Did a bit more poking and prodding and found the front speakers to be in this state...

My pink GL that Mr Garf has now was 1st Feb 84 registered. Had twin wipers and 1800 engine but then had the early 40 litre tank and full size spare.

Looking forward to seeing it

They fit straight in.

You could also fit them in the rear and get rid of those horrible Matsui speakers...

All went well, car hardly put up a fight at all. Rather impressed.

An interesting discovery however, the cylinder head has hydraulic lifters? I was under the impression they should be mechanical?

You changing the head or just doing the gasket?
