At last, I've had a chance to get my teeth properly into the forthcoming work. I removed the passenger seat and lifted the carpets to reveal the nearside sill, its no worse - or better - than I'd expected. I've done sill repairs on a few other cars inc Mk1 Golf before, so not too worried. And I have the welder, gas, metal etc ready to do it.

Got to worth doing and enjoying your fail sheet is a dodle compeared to my task.. lol

After having gotten a college year out the way, I've looked again at the car. It seems its a bit more than a few patches, its quite rusty underneath. So its either a bit of a restoration, or breaking for spares. While I'd love to do the work myself, I'd only do it if I were keeping the car long term but I don't know if I can do that (2 cars, etc etc) and I'd rather not simply bodge it up and sell on. So, I think probably best to sell as is as a project? eBay seems so dodgy these days and full of scammers etc, any other suggestions on where to best sell it? I know how rare the stuff is, and how much the parts (like the leather interior, etc) is worth so don't really want to get ripped off in the process, etc. Or worth taking the chance and doing a 99p no reserve auction on eBay and see what happens?

I'm sure that on eBay you will find a genuine buyer and get a good price. It's really not as dodgy as you might think - I've rarely had bad experiences from eBay selling cars - you do occasionally get a knob-end who turns up and then decides to try to haggle over the price (response from me is "pay what you bid or bugger off"), or doesn't turn up at all, but mostly you can filter this sort of crap by communicating with your bidders before the auction ends. You get the same level of nonsense with any kind of private sale with all the teeth-suckers and Nigerian businessmen.

However, if you have a (realistic) price in mind and want an easy private sale there will be plenty of interest here (hello!) and on other VW forums.
