280mm set up, wheels are 15's but not correct offset as I have to use spacers to stop them fouling on the suspension.

Engine bay painted ( not the best but will do for a year until engine swap) engine and gearbox fitted. Just wish I remember where I put all the bits and what bolts go where!

Making good progress.
You found out what happens if you don't remove the oil dip stick when removing/replacing the engine. The plastic cover is readily available and you may be able to bend the dip stick back.
If you get stuck on where bolts go let us know as I put my engine back in last month and I took 100s of photos so I knew where every thing went, the hardest bit was re routing the wires and leads in the right order which took some time.

Actually got it out without snapping the dipstick but I snagged my trouser pocket on it! I'm not doing too badly with finding where the bolts go, it's just remembering where I put them all! Ive welded all the loom holes in the bulk head so the wirings gonna be a bit of a pain.

Update time. Got the engine all in and pretty much sorted, carb rebuilt engine and gearbox in, exhaust all plumbed up, then my mate offered me his Agu fitted a3 1.8t 20v for £150. So engines back out and new engine is half out. Got most bits for conversion and all other bits are in hand. Hopefully be done for national meet but the misses is about to drop a sprog so god knows!

Update- wasn't too happy with the engine bay paint finish so I repainted it.20v Agu engine and gearbox is in and I have sourced most of the parts to complete the conversion. Things needed to still get- exhaust, fuel pump and hyd clutch line. Wife gave birth the other week so I'm struggling for time at the moment.

Not updated for a while as I've been busy here's what I've done.Been plodding along with stuff and acquiring bits n bobs. Suspension and brakes are pretty much back together, new cv boots, new osf tie rod, 22mm master cylinder fitted on mk3 golf servo, intake is all fitted, tip fitted. Things to do-
Fuel system- got new lines to fit, need to plumb in fuel pumps, fuel swirl pot etc.. And wire it all up.
Exhaust- got all parts just needs bolting up.
Charge pipes and coolant pipes need finishing off.
Radiator fans need fitting.
Engine wiring all needs doing, got a loom so just needs fitting and tinkering.
Many other little bits to do, clutch etc...

quick update, not much done lately as ive had a lack of spare time. since last update I have sorted all charge pipes. I started sorting the exhaust but made a rookie error and welded the flexi pipe too far forward and now the arb wont fit, round the buoy with that one! apart from that ive not really done much as ive bought an early mk2 gti which is my daily and ive been doing a few bits to that.

Not had a chance to do much lately but will start on it again today. I have made a new gauge plate for it though, I got a few extras made if anyone else needs one. Hopefully get the fuel system and exhaust finished this weekend. Then it's clutch, cooling and electrics and hopefully it will be a runner.
