You can buy a rubber rivnut that doesnt need a tool to fit them, take a look on ebay as i have seen them on there before

I have a pair of mirrors.
Passenger i was going to fit but cant bring myself to cut the holes in the door, and a NOS VW drivers side, which i was going to fit in place of mine, but not sure I can be bothered stripping the door to fit a mirror that looks pretty much exactly the same :D

I have to check the drivers side as the adjuster seems stiff, as soon as i remember how to get the glass out! something with the holes in the bottom I think?

As you are probably aware there were two types of mirror fitted. The early 'flag' chrome and later the remote operated plastic type. The top edge of the doors must be angled differently on the Golf to the Scirocco as I discovered when trying to fit a replacement to my Storm! On the later (plastic) type, only on very close inspection is it evident that the shoulder on the mount is larger on the Golf (approx. 37mm to the Sciroccos 27mm) - it makes a difference!

This one is the Golf one I tried to fit. Now going on Ebay!

does anyone know how to get the mirro glass out?
Something isnt right inside my offside mirror as the up/down adjustment doesnt work. mirror moves but just springs back to face the floor...

I remember seeing something in the Bentley manual about the 2 holes in the bottom, but cant remember what
