Am doing Cambuslang <-> Cambridge every other weekend 360 miles each way on 39 to 42 litres to fill, have tried shell Vpower, Gulf ? , Tesco Supreme & esso ? all claiming 97 RON, fuel brand don't seem to make much difference to fill. However speed for first 100 miles seems to set the MFA reading for the journey, slow ( around 60 ) gives the higher reading of 42 to 45. Before changing the oil pump, when the oil pressure could get seriously high Tesco Supreme could read up to 54 on the MFA .

I thought about this once. Weber'd car, no MFA, Tesco fuel (for the points!)

I set the ignition timing using the "advance till it pinks then back off a smidge" approach for super. Drove the car. ... Did the same on regular. The MPG increase from using super was cancelled out by the cost difference - the Miles Per Pound were identical. It ran smoother on super though, so I left it set up for that.

Exactly, or go buy a diesel.

If I'm going on a long journey 100 miles plus each way, then super plus. Every now and again, very rarely I put a tank of super plus to clean the jets, otherwise always run on standard. The smell of the petrol and the occasional backfire puts a smile on my face.
