Sounds similar to my problems that was sorted reasonably easily and quickly, if a bit messy.
Pictures should help you once you have removed the sump.
Good Luck.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely to be a one off. Sounds like your engine is marginal on oil pressure, and maybe the hot day and a longish drive just pushed it into warning territory. It might be a faulty buzzer, but it's more likely worn bearings or a worn oil pump. Try to get an oil pressure gauge on it to check - even if you just borrow one from a mate.

For what it's worth...

I drove from Central Beds. to Suffolk the other day with no problems at all, and I just did the drive back just now. Buzzer / light went off about 3-4 times, and every time it was under heavy braking (from 60mph down to about 40), and always when going uphill. Worn bearings? Worn pump? Dodgy sensor? I don't know. But it got me home ok, so I'm taking it to my regular garage guy hoping he can work his magic on it...

Check that the wiring for both oil pressure switches isn't rubbing anywhere. If they've rubbed through the insulation and touch metal, your light will come on.

Will only take you a minute to check and rules out wiring issues.

Update - turns out the oil pressure switch was knackered. A £20 job (would have been less if I'd done it, of course, if I had the first idea what was involved), but happy it was such a simple issue, and grateful for everyone's responses. I was properly bricking myself when it first came on, so relieved it's all over. For now...

Glad you got it sorted now, at least you know the buzzer works incase the oil pump does lose pressure.

You can easily test the buzzer. Just unplug one of the switches and rev the engine over 2,000rpm.
