Left at 04:51. Later than planned but I thought it would be better avoiding the rush from Perth past Stirling and Glasgow.
Killed a rabbit within ten minutes

Back wheel got him
First 50-60 miles were as predicted, great fun. I thought I was pressing on to the best of my ability but the natives make you look inept. They fly along and simply never slow down for the corners. Local knowledge rules.
Currently at Broxden Services in McDonalds. MFA is saying average of 61mph so far. Think I've done 233 miles, not sure.
Leaving here at 9am and next stop is M6, Jct 44 as there's an Asda a few hundred yards off the motorway that'll be around £1.34.9 for diesel.

Arrived at Asda Carlisle. Glamorous! Diesel here seems to always be more or less the cheapest around. £1.34.7 today.
Car seems to be A1 and average speed now up to a 'right side of the law' 65mph!
Got enough fuel now to get all the way down to Lands End in one hit but no doubt there'll be a stop or two along the way!
Economy seems decent:
Liverpool to Inverness 53.7mpg
Inverness to John O'Groats to Carlisle 48.2mpg
Think the drop is down to all the slowing and speeding up between Inverness and John O'Groats, supermarket diesel and the high winds between Glasgow and Carlisle.
Onwards...

Just stopped at Tebay for a slice of homemade Billionaire Shortbread.
Chap in a new Range Rover came running across the car park arms flailing admiring the Scirocco. Apparently he had one 'back in the day' also C reg and Mars red!
Wasted stop, sold out of Billionaires Shortbread.
£1.47.9 for diesel. No thanks.
:)

M5 Frankley now.
Bit of a nightmare with congestion, an accident and a wide load. Also made the cardinal sin of opening the vent to the right of the hazard, HRW, fog lamp switches. Both myself and the interior of the car look like someone has emptied a wheelie bin full of gardening waste over us now :(
Popped the bonnet to check the oil. Needed 250ml. Noticed that a cable tie securing the alternator to starter wiring was rubbing against the bottom hose. The joint of the cable tie. Cut it off with side cutters and replaced. In doing this, I momentarily touched the oil filter with the back of my hand. I honestly feel like someone has set my hand on fire.
272 miles to go.

M5 Taunton Deane. 149 miles to go.
MFA is saying I've been driving for 10hrs 47mins, covered 703 miles at an average speed of 64mph. MFA won't give a fuel consumption reading with the diesel engine but we're at low fifties mpg.
I'm guessing another two and a half to three hours from here. Not feeling tired at all so far!
Weather now 23 degrees and sunshine :) Better than 12 degrees and rain in Scotland :)

I have arrived!!
I left at 04:51 and arrived at 19:52. That makes it a 15hr 01mim day.
According to the trip computer:
13hrs 13mins driving time
854 miles covered
64mph average speed
I need to fill up again before I calculate MPG but I'm 99% sure we're looking at 51/52mpg which is remarkable considering the day it's had!
Car has been pretty much A1! It's used 250ml of oil and one of the brackets holding the air filter in place has cracked. Other than that, not missed a beat.
364 miles back to Liverpool now!
:)

I hope there is photographic evidence to support this.

Ha!
I have a photo taken at John O'Groats yesterday evening. Took one there this morning in the car showing the time (04:51), mileage on the car and the satnav showing where I was and where I was heading and how far that was!
Taken a couple of photos at Lands End. Have a receipt from Asda Carlisle for diesel!
It's a legitimate event!
:)
