When you say you have no spark from the plugs are you holding the spark plug near to the engine (use pillers to hold the ht lead) when turning the engine over? I don't mean to tell you how to suck eggs but just checking.

On my car the ht lead going to number 1 plug (left hand side of the engine near the cambelt) is the one nearest the engine at about 12 o'clock looking from the top. Then go clockwise to no3, no4, no2

Thanks chaps I will have a look at the leads situation on Saturday re testing the spark I did earth the lead
I will post any progress on Saturday

5 inches of snow on the rocco so won't be working on it in the only daylight hours I have this week A4hour window Saturday morning

the vac hoses look to be in the right place form that picture. You said you can smell fuel on the plugs? I'd be looking for spark and compression, assuming you didnt touch the cam timing or spark timing when the carb got swapped? are the two earth straps clean and tight? one goes to the coil and one goes to the gearbox..
