I shouldn't think it would be camber related, had the problem arise before the hub came off for wheel bearing to be replaced. When refitting I had the camber adjusted to 'way positive' to counter the lowered height. Never had any rubbing problems, and the camber is about right.

Mystery solved. Finally got round to checking my CV joints today (albeit in the lazy 'wiggle the driveshaft' manner) and there is a reasonable amount of movement on the outer joint. The inner is solid, so at least that's the easier one to replace!
Now I just need to find a driveway/garage somewhere around Cumbria I can do the work...

Has the driveshaft been wearing on the hub? Or are they normally that shape?

Having replaced the CV, that seems to have done the job. Haven't had any twitchiness since.
That said, the CV joint itself didnt appear very worn, although on one side the channels for the balls were pitted, which was likely causing the ball to catch at certain points.
