Whoo hooo... concrete has been poured!

Had a few issues hence the delay in getting this done... there was a MAAASSSIVE tree at the bottom of the garden, which looked rather precarious, so i took no chance, and had the rascal chopped down. I was all set for concrete a couple of weeks back, but the tree man said if i put it down then dropped the tree it would ruin the concrete. The technique he used is called "Pollarding". its like extreme pruning. basically you just chop the tree back so its a big stump, and it starts growing new shoots again. its given us enough wood to last about 4years and lets tonnes more light into the garden and back room. This is the tree before...

Concrete poured and leveled

You can see how much tree we have left... looks proper drastic but in a couple of years it should look alot better

Dried and ready for bricks.

Nice weather today up in the NW, so think a couple of beers and spot of bricklaying is in order this evening.

Need to work out how i am going to do the garage door, not sure if going to go for a wooden twin opening jobbie, or a up and over steel one?

It's mid way.. framing is nearly done, just this god awful weather is seriously hindering process!!

Took a few days to get the brickwork done then let it set hard, but to get the frame done its taken about 3 full days. Waiting on the new delivery of wood so I can clad it.

It's gonna be a good size tho, its like another house at the bottom of the garden!!!

Jealous?... Me?... Yes I bloody well am.

Weather issues won't be a problem soon. If only I had the space.

the walls are 7.5ft to the eves, and then its another 4ft to the ridge. all together its cost £475 for the wood for the framing, and I will have plenty left with to make a solid work bench, wood store outside and make some doors for the garage. I think that I will ply line the inside of the garage, it will make it stonger and warmer, also its neater for shelves and the likes. for the extra £200 its prob worth it in the long run

The roof is going to be covered in Onduline Bitumen Sheets. They are a corrugated sheet and I think i am going to go for the Green colour. This is the stuff.

Hoping to have the garage completed for £2500 or there abouts, which i dont think is too bad.

Thats what I am thinking yeah, hopefully with getting the garden and garage done it will add about 10k onto the property value in the long term (fingers crossed).

I have always wanted a decent garage, after working on the street, then drive, then in a small garage its defo about time i had a decent space where I can keep everything. Its great having the building at the girlfriends parents place but means if i go there i have to spend the night working there really, you cant just nip out to do half an hour or so when you get chance.

Roof stuff ordered now so that should be getting delivered early next week.

Its all much of a muchness really price wise, I got a 4m3 truck so it wasnt too bad.
Cost have been all about the same somehow... I already had the bricks, and the damp proof membrane so that was free

£545 for concrete
£475 for the frame
£530 for the roof
£520 for the cladding
£300 for the Plywood/OSB
£150 for Electric supply and fittings/lights/sockets

I am going to put three 90x60cm windows in the front, and another 3 down the side. think that should do it.

No Sky dish, but i am thinking about putting a small log burner in for the winter time and a beer fridge!

How much was it to do your drive???? you get 2m3 of concrete for it?

Thats about standard price i thinks. think mine was £110 per m3, then i got this fibreglass stuff put in at an extra £20.
Suppose they bump the price up a tad for smaller loads too? your drive looks good, bet its alot easier with it wider now...

yeah worked out at just over £100 cube with fibres from Barrow Mix, i may have got a discount on the delivery as I'm only half a mile awy from the depot, if I;d mixed it me self i way have saved £30 but would have been mixing all day lol as it was 30mins and it was done.

yeah drive much better, rocco cant get on the new half though due to the bump at the back of the old footway, my new renault only just gets over it!!!!!

Looks good. I'm going to insist on at least a double garage at my next house (hopefully moving next summer). I had the use of one briefly in a rented house as a student - with the luxury of electricity and space it was the one time I really enjoyed working on cars (I'm more of a driver otherwise).
