I wish mine had the tilt only glass one like the other half's Rocco has = simpler and gives a bit more headroom.
Were those glass ones O.E. of aftermarket jobbies ?

Not OE, the OE were metal tilt and slide.
I remember back in the mid '80s when I had my first MK2, it was a 1.6GL no sunroof, so I went and got one fitted, it was a tilt and pop out job. If the car is still around it probably leaks like a sieve!

For any that are broken the easiest fix is to take the old one out and swap the mechanism for one form any of the mk1, 2 or 3 golfs which were slide only.
Much easier to find in the scrapyard.
Or if your feeling fancy there were some Audis that had the tilt and slide that were electric so you could wire one in. Theres a nice guide for doing it to a MK1/2 golf kicking around on one of the GTi sites somewhere.

Someone here (I can't remember who) did this on a mk2 Scirocco. There used to be a guide on the forum (possibly the old one).

MK3 Golfs had a glass slide and tilt roof, electric to boot
