First of all gIad to see you still fully intact, secondly good to hear the car is salvagable and thirdly i'm pretty stunned by this I bent my Axel up pretty bad in an accident a while back but it was still in one piece. Good luck getting the old one removed they can be a pain especially if they are slightly rusty I suggest getting it up on a ramp and using a liberal amount of penetrating oil and a decent set of impact tools.

I couldn't get the car up much higher than 2 foot but surprising enough it came apart without too much trouble.
I have since discovered (from VW garage) it was a 16 valver (now Seat 1.9 Td) which I think were fitted with disc brakes (someone correct me if I am wrong) so it may have been a replacement hence the easy removal. All is good now as the replacement was mostly free from rust and I cleaned it all down with a wire brush in a drill and treated it with Jenoite and liberally coated with red oxide with added zinc ans put several coats of tractor paint on it (and all new mounting rubbers) so it should be good for a long while now.

Sounds like you've given it a "Proper Job" treatment.

Took the car for a MOT yesterday, failed on CV boot and de-laminated numberplate, sorted them today now got a fresh MOT, glad to be back in the Scirocco after an over winter layup.
The mechanic doing the test said he has failed a couple of Scirocco's for severely rusted axle beams in the past, so a more common fault than I ever thought,they look so sturdy even when rusty, still shudder at the thought of what could have happened on a fast Motorway.

Might have got my wires crossed but your car is a red gt2 with a diesel engine isn't it? If it is I know the previous owner. He had mentioned he heard the axle had broken and couldn't believe it He has raced these cars and certainly knows his way around them to.

Don't think your wires are crossed, got it from "Danster" near Pearth last year, seemes like a nice guy, made a good job of the conversion. Just love my wee oil burner.
