A picture paints a thousand words (or so they say!).

The ignition amplifier is the small black square box on the end of this loom, it has the VW logo and a part number on it.
The ignition amplifier lives in the scuttle area, on the right hand side as you are looking at the engine.

Where are you based, as I could get one in the post for you?

Hi ianaudia4 , I'm in Cardiff. How much do you want for that? I will check mine out on the weekend, I'm gonna disconnect every connection I see under the bonnet too, clean and reconnect. This has got to be a simple electrical problem! :dash:

We just tested the ignition amplifier for current etc. As far as I can work out, when it's not connected to the 'negative' terminal on the coil, it's reading as 'negative', but as soon as i connect it to the coil it turns 'positive'. Almost like it's sending the current back on itself. Didn't have a chance to check if the spark coming from the new leads is strong, because the battery's now flat (charging overnight). Does this sound like the amplifier itself is knackered? It'll be time to get an auto electrician in soon, me thinks!

A very p*$$^d off Rocco owner! :dash:
