Re: Project F4T A55 - Rieger GTO Scirocco
A whole year has gone by - to this exact day since i last posted an update on the Rieger... I must say i feel very bad for not doing more work on the old girl. its just one of those things, priorities and all that jazz. I had to SORN the car again last month for the 5th consecutive time, then seeing pictures from the National Meet and going to a couple of shows has has got me thinking more and more about driving it again so much so i've been doing a couple of bits on it... Amazing heh!!
Talking with my friend yesterday, we have located a suitable suitable car trailer for carrying it, so this weekend she will see daylight again and come to live at my house in the super shed!! Its not really been practical having the car there at the moment due to the garage being used as a workshop and storeroom, but now its empty of crap and I can say I am more than happy to have my car at home again!
Last time the car was in my garage was in 2009!! First job I want to do is get the brakes & brake lines back on the car.

She is home!!

Nearly ripped the front bumper off again, getting it on and off the trailor and then into the garage. forgot how low the front end is, i had to make special ramps to get it in there!!

There is plenty of space to work on the car in there, although i need to get rid of 2 sofas that are taking up valuable space!!

Re: The Rieger has come home!
Glad you got it home to do some work on it, I've looked at your car every day this month as the Scirocco register calender is on my kitchen wall!
Atleast you can now look at it in your garage..

Re: The Rieger has come home!
Haha, thats quality!!
I've been in the garage this evening. had to sort out loads of stuff that i brought back from the big building! There was loads of stuff including my megasquirt, some fireblade throttle bodies, 2 cylinder heads, my inlet manifolds, metering head etc. I've got a couple of heads and some parts for sale because i just don't have room for it. Check out the for sale section. I'm still planning on running the throttle bodies with the megasquirt.

Took the alternator and water pump off, going to get a new pump, its probably been on for 6 or 7 years but still spins ok. Going to change he head on the engine too, since i last updated this post, i've bought a bydenstein ported head, with schrick cams. should give it a little more poke, Wondering about changing the bearings and rings, but i dont know what size to get, is there any way to tell what size you need? I also need to buy a socket to undo the head bolts. do you know what socket i need?

I then took the hubs off so that I can change the wheel bearings, I couldn't get the track rod ends off the hubs so just undid them from the steering arms, the ends seem ok so will leave them for the time being.. One of the boots is ripped so i will change that too. I will also get some new brake pads - think some fast road ones with the 280mm discs are in order.

Lots of bits to be ordered tomorrow

Jeeeeze, parts are expensive arnt they!
Track Rod Ends, Inner Track Rods and new boots for both sides
2 wheel bearing kits
16v MLS headgasket
16v Waterpump
16v Head Bolt Set!
= 130 quid!! Suppose i've not spent anything on her for a while... and now i know the front end is going to be spot on. Everything up there is new or aftermarket.

Re: The Rieger has come home!
To get the track rod end off the hub I use this sort of tool, tighten it up the tap it with a hammer, track rod pops off and 9times out of 10 the rubber boot for the track rod is not destroyed unlike the fork type of tool
This is the first one I found so you will need to check its the right size for vw track rods.
