For some obscure reason I couldn't log on using my previous details from the old site.

So Kaz is now Turbogirlie - some of you know me as this anyhow.

See you around sometime I hope!

Hi All,
Wayne here, been a Serial MK1 Scirocco owner / lover for many years, had various models including 2 x Storms, but of course when I bought and Sold them they weren't so valuable! Damn it! I'd be rolling in it now.
Currently got a '77 GLS in Red but my daily car is an Audi A5 - when I saw the A5 I thought it looked like a Scirocco MK1 on steroids.

Hi Wayne, nice car you have... it was advertized here but I think sold through eBay in the end? It seemed to be pretty good but you said in the other thread it needs lots of work. So what needs doing?

1977 Scirocco Mk1 GLS:
The car is in 'good' condition, but I've since found a handful of 'niggles' which will drive me crazy!.

Exterior
  • • Front wings are from a MKII : Need new MK1 Wings.
    • Door Panels are clean, but need tidying - preferably new doors.
    • Paintwork needs - improving.
    • Bumpers - untidy - especially front bumper.
    • Window Seals - untidy.
Interior
  • • Seats need tidying up.
    • Generally needs tidying and 'sprucing' up.
Mechanical
  • • Fuel leak. The car emptied £25 of Unleaded on my Drive!
    • Windscreen Wiper very Slooooooow!
    • Brakes need overhauling.
    • I'd like a 5 speed Gearbox.
    • ..And a Fuel injected engine.
It's not all bad. The car runs and drives very spritely, and is very responsive. Also it looks to be in very god condition. Overall the car is pretty good, but I want the car to be perfect. Before buying this one I was looking for a fully restored or totally original car, but couldn't find one. I'll keep looking for one, but in the meantime I'll try and improve this GLS.

I'm not totally mechanically minded / gifted. Does anyone know of anyone who can take on a full restoration project like this, within a fixed budget?

the good news for you is that series one front wings are readily available as repro panels. Series two ones like you have are not, so if you want to remove and sell them you should be able to make good money for them.

The rest of the problems sound mostly relatively easy fixes and as long as there's no structural rust it won't be too difficult to sort out. Hope to see the car at a show soon.

A fixed budget resto on a mk1  It can't be done ;)

Ed makes a good point about the front wings, your lucky that you're not after phase 2 wings...

Perhaps you should request a project thread....

Hi, I am Doug T.

I am a product designer (Industrial Designer).
I have been driving Karmann built cars for several decades.
I live in the land of rust fee Sciroccos, palm trees and sunshine (California).
I drive one of my Sciroccos each and every day. I have driven Sciroccos in the land of pie (the UK), the land of great cars (Germany), the land of shocks (NL), the land of exports (Hong Kong), the land of Godzilla (Japan) the land of cows (Cincy US) and the land of ice (Canada)
You may have seen some of the Scirocco history essays that I have posted over the years on some web sites.
I have owned many Scirocco (75, 75, 76, 78, 80, 80, 80, 81, 84, 87 and a few parts cars).
At this time I have a Scirocco that was built in 1976, 1980 and even one that was built in 1987.
I am a typical Scirocco owner. I enjoy driving a car that requires the driver's attention.

I like pictures and drawings of cars in message board posts so I enclosed a few of my Sciroccos.
