I have a couple of mk1s that I won't be driving especially soon (both under construction).
I sold all my mk2s before I moved house, in part because I owned especially nice ones that I worried about.
I sold my MX-5 when my daughter arrived, since you can't even leave mummy at home and strap the baby into the passenger seat; you can't turn off the airbag.
I bought an automatic, diesel estate. It's very practical.
I had nothing fun to drive.
I started looking at mk2s. I couldn't find a nice one that was also sensibly priced.
I put up a wanted ad on the forum.
A chap called Robin offered me his white Scala. One of the really white ones, with the white lights and the white interior.
I hate white cars.
It was sensibly priced and seemed good, without being a show-pony.
Our North Wales correspondent offered to have a look for me. The report was favourable.
I negotiated a price.
I got on one of these:

Then I got on one of these:

I had a familiar view on the way home:

I tried to open the sunroof. It broke:

It was quite a bouncy, firm ride home. Fortunately I don't have any fillings (I didn't have any at the start of the journey either).

To do:

1) Fix sunroof
2) Change suspension
3) Remove scene accessories
4) Drive. Often.
5) to be continued...

I had a look at this and very nearly bought it myself. Nice car and the interior is in really good condition considering it's white. I found the suspension very bouncy and a bit too low so I think you're right to change it. Other than that it seemed like a good car and I hope you enjoy it.

Ed isn't a fan of eyebrows or yellow lights...

I like my own eyebrows. Yes, Ryan, I have the original plates. They're a bit faded but will do.

Not had time to do much, but had a trouble-free (if bumpy) ride up to the Grotto and back. Good times.

It's been tucked away in the lock-up for the past month. I thought I'd take it out for a drive today to blow away the cobwebs. It turns out the spiders have been up to something more than spinning webs, as the car won't start.

I hate white cars.

GOOD NEWS!

(No, it hasn't been resprayed a different colour).

A new relay number 62 (321 906 059 G) arrived from Germany this week. Swapped out the old one and, hey presto!, we have ignition again.

I bought a few other bits and bobs to try to cure the leak into the boot (boot seal, rear light seals and rubber washers for where the gas struts mount to the body - all available from VW Classic Parts). I used SGS Engineering for some gas struts, but the ones I've been sent mount the opposite way round to VW and foul the bodywork. I'm not happy with this, so if that's what they supply, I'll spend the few extra quid for Lift-o-Mats from VW.

Here you can see the problem:
