Bought my old Scirocco back

Post by Scirobbo »

Was cruising around on the bay and noticed my old 1985 GTS up for sale. The chap selling it was a nice fella and was willing to let it go for a good price. So I bought it. Again.

I thought about the idea of repairing it, I'd spent a lot of money on it by the time I sold it back in 2008. Since then though it's took a bit of a battering. Think it's past it's best so looks like i'm gonna be breaking her up for spares for my GTII.

Here's the car when I owned it

This is it now...

After it breaking down on the way home after 8 miles (dodgy Pierburg), I managed to tow it the rest of the way with my Golf. When I got it home I realised how much work it needed Including welding, new shocks, new panels, new carb etc. Luckily it's still got some really good bits left on it which will donated to my GTII (including a perfect headlining at last!!) Shame to break it, GTS models are rare now.

Those grille blanks for the inner lights are popular on eBay.

How much do you reckon they are worth? Was thinking of putting them in my GTII but I think I'd rather see where I'm going during winter if that makes sense. Not sure if they'd suit my car either. I payed £20 for them back when I had the GTS but they must be worth a bit more that due to their rarity. Those bumper fog lights are like brand new too.

I'm fairly certain the last pair I watched on eBay went for over £60.

Shame as has been neglected somewhat but can you not restore it, pretty certain that the panels you need could be bought off here reasonably cheap, to what extent does it require welding?

Havent been underneath it properley but it basically needs a full strip down and rebulid. Inner wheel arches (in boot are rotten) as well as outer arches. Took the wheels off today and all the suspension bushes are knackered etc engine bay is a mess, cracked dashboard, seats have seen better days but could be salvaged. Poor thing has been used and not cared for. Its got a good engine and box though, no smoke etc. When it runs that is.

Hi, If you are breaking it I would definitely be interested in some parts, I need both doors, boot carpet, part of the dash and numerous other small bits for the project car I bought yesterday. I'm in Birmingham, so not too far from you. If you could let me know that would be great. Cheers :good:
ps I tried to pm you but I don't think it sent, possibly because I am new to the forum?
