Bumper respray?

Well my bumpers could look better they have taken the toll of 18years of driving

anyone on here tries respraying them, themselves?

Me car is a tornado red scala so body coloured bumpers

what paint do in need etc, do you reckon a rattle can job would loook any good?

alternatively anyone god some good nick tornado red bumpers?! front and rear

I was hoping to do the same to mine this weekend...
until I heard is meant to be RAINING. Oh well.

What I was planning, based on several peoples advice:
-Rub down to key paint and remove all loose stuff
-Clean up soapy water, mask trim strips up
-Paint with a plastic / bumper flexible primer x 2 - 3 layers (hour between coats)
-Leave for 24hours
-Paint with a couple of layers of paint mixed to colour
-Leave for 24hours
-Apply laquer and hopefully end up with something pretty good!

i'll give a go sometime soon (got loads of other bits to get done first and save my penies for!)

can you get any old motor spares place to mix up paint or wil i have to go somewhere specialist?

Dude, if I were you I'd chuck some unpainted black bumpers on. Personally, I think they look great with body coloured kits.

Obviously, your car mate so you do what floats your boat, just opening up other options to you

Mate dont use soapy water it will leave a silicone grease, use pre-paint wipes, or meth's.
Silicone grease will cause whats known as "fish eyes" on your finish. Small little dots.

I've just finished spraying half an old bumper as a test, and so far went pretty well.
Needs a bit more lacquer though.

Only problem I had was masking the trim strip, is there any easy way to get this off? I tried but almost broke it!

I tried to dismantle a bumper today as I wanted to fit the old cover to a new metal bit. I think it is possible, but extremely difficult and time-consuming - VW workshops would probably have some sort of special tools for the job. I would just make sure you clean it up really well, use the best masking tape you can find, and apply it carefully. I will probably end up doing this myself soon, so interested to see how others get on. It can't be that difficult, especially since it's a lumpy surface, which will help to mask a slightly rough paint finish.

Funny how most Scirocs with black bumpers and bodycoloured kit look a bit more dated and lower spec and others just look a bit cooler and meaner and more eighties. That last red one in the pics is ace. I think the rear one's easier to get away with because it matches the black spoiler, especially if the rear clusters are smoked. However I reckon 9 times out of 10 the front one's better body coloured (as long as the kit's body coloured).

I actually prefer black kit and bumpers on blue and grey Sciroc's though, but wheels need to be black too I reckon. Check Ashrocco's out on here - well nice. But white, black, red and silver Scirocs are better all bodycoloured for me.

Anyone done this respray yet? Mine's in dire need of it. Is it possible to swap my plain one for the headlight washer one on my scrapper scala or is that a massive job? I'd really like headlight washers.

If you want headlight washers, you need the washer bottle and wiring for the extra pump from the same donor car as they're different.

I prefer a coloured bumper on a red car. It has to be red on red though - as opposed to the pink on pink that mine has acquired over the years
