now the question in hand is
how do i take the old off?
what will i find below?
will it fit straight on?
will the gate require paint/filler?

You'll definitely have a few holes to fill. Not sure about how it fits on/whether or not you can use the existing fittings.

You might find it easier to replace the whole tailgate and paint a small spoiler one in the right colour.

It will fit in the existing lower holes just above the curve of the hatch.

Upper holes will need to be welded and painted if its a keeper, or if you just want to trial for now, cover the old holes with new black tape. Or as Ed says, you could try and source an early hatch.
