What is this thing I broke?

Post by dozzum »

I was having a poke around under the bonnet when I saw something I hadnt noticed before on the gearbox.

It was a light brown coloured plastic nut.

So naturally I had a fiddle. It seemed to be spring loaded, If I pulled it up it would unscrew. So I unscrewed it and now it wont go back on.

underneath this nut was a pin type thing, a spring and a sleeve.

I have taken some photos to help.

Dont mind the spilt coolant, Ive just been changing pipes.

Cheers Guys

Nut sat where it should attach

I think I may have solved my own mystery.

I'm hoping its a blank for the reversing light switch on cars with no MFA.

Which if it is may come in handy as I have never been able to get mine working even after buying a new switch.
