Chrome Gutter Trim

So I'm lucky enough to have gutter trim, except its rather tired. Has anyone ever re-chromed/refurbed theirs?

I need to have a closer look, but it seems to be a composite of clear plastic and foil inside.

Sounds like yours is a later one - earlier cars (probably the pre-facelift?) have metal gutter trims...

That was my thread - I dont (long term) want none oem either, but for £12 that stuff really is OK - Certainly in my opinion looks better than tired OEM.

I have the same problem as you - the later trim that is foil wrapped in plastic, and you just cant do anything with it once water has crept in. With mine, the passenger side was knackered, but the drivers side OK, so I have done both sides in the cheapy stuff until I can get hold of a pass. side OEM one, or a pair

I would take some better pics to show you that it genuinely looks OK, but that long awaited bodywork I was talking about in the post you dug up is halfway through, so the car is in bits (again!)

i'll have to have a rummage in the shed. i've got the trims of an R reg mk1 i stumbled accross in a breakers a fewyears ago

Has anyone ever tried chrome powder coat or even black powder coat?

Not a bad idea. Does powercoat apply to plastic?

I spoke with a chrome powdercoater and he said it wouldnt work on the trim, he suggested for milky metal trim using nitro mors to strip and then use a clear lacquer to seal and it would be like new. I have not tried it yet myself

I still have a pair of new old stock early gutter trims - the aluminium ones. Plus one odd side (and the other side in a barn on the other side of Europe if I ever manage to pick it up).
I spoke to an annodiser about getting them annodised black but he said he'd be concern as theyre quite fragile when not fitted

I had planned to fit them on my Mk1 when it evetually gets painted but its taking a while
