In tank fuel pump

Post by plastermaster »

Hi folks first of all appologies not been on here for ages.

My 1984 Mk2 storm has been running like a pig so have changed just about everything
there is to change in order to fix it but its still not right. Will tell the whole story soon!

I now need an in tank pump but understand that from 85 on the pump is different so
does anyone know where i can get a new one for an 84 model or will a 85 one fit?
Have tried VW Heritage/VW Classic Parts.

Cheers guys

Steve

I'm sure GSF sell them, but worthwhile whipping yours out and getting the part number off it.

Thanks Ian,
tried VW & they can't give me a part number (been deleted for pre 85 cars ).
Will the part number definately be on the pump?

Been thinking about this  and as mine has the space saver spare and therefor
the larger tank surely the later pump would fit?

If I remember rightly your car is the low miler isn't it? I would think the part number will be on it, you have to get it out anyway so worth waiting until you've done so before you order the wrong part.
You may be lucky and only need to clean the filter out.

The change was in 84 - prior to that there was no in-tank pump. If your car has injection and the spacesaver spare wheel then it's the same pump as all post 84 injected models - Storm, GTX 8v/16v and later Scala.

Bear in mind the problem may also be in this little awkward sod of a part

Yes it is the low mileage one your correct.
Car is in a garage (recommended by seanr68 on here) in Leeds at the moment so will get them to wip it out and have a look
for a number.

Luckily working only 300 meters from GSF in Bradford next week so will call & see if they have one.

Thank's for that mr.brown.
Do you know if that part is available in the UK? (never bought anything from the USA).

The part that Mr brown has mentioned is available from VW Classic parts, less than 20 Euros.

You're welcome mate, the part number is 533 201 511A, it shows as a filter.
