1990 GT2 Tart Up

Post by drsqueggy »

Hey guys! I'm getting my Scirocco repainted and getting some new rims and things. Ill post all the progress up in this thread.

Here is the car getting picked up from its den, she has been sitting in a farm in West Wales for two years.

I initially took her off the road with the intention of getting her painted straight away (a white van bumped into the drivers side door, he didn't hang about to exchange insurance details) but she ended up sitting there for two years, she's starting to look a little tired.

They are the standard wheels, painted black in the centre with the plastic rim bit painted silver, they came out really nice!

The car is now in the bodyshop being stripped down.... Found out that both the front and rear bumper mountings are rotten, seriously there's nothing left of them! The actual bumpers themselves are in really good condition but the bars? and the brackets? They just fell on to the floor in an orange heap! What's the deal with these mountings anyway? Could I just buy them and fit them on to my bumpers? Or will I need to get new bumpers? I'm getting the black strips removed and having the bumpers smoothed so if I do buy new bumpers they will have to be in pretty good condition... Anyway, here's some pictures of the car being stripped down.

Have a look on here and it may help you with your bumper problem as it shows the complete setup for a 1992 Roc.
Front bumper.

Haven't updated this for a while but here's a photo of how she's looking now.

Few bit and bobs to do before she will be back on the road..

That's a pretty nifty bit of tarting up! :vcool: Might we get a chance to see it up close at some shows later in the year?

Yes, I'm hoping to show her this summer, not sure where and when though. What's the best?

Loads of good events ... often depends what you want from a show.

Last year was my first full year on the VW show scene and I took lily to several, including Volksfling, GTI International, Cumbria VAG, our very own National Meet, Tatton Park, and the VW Festival ... all cracking shows.

Also visited a few more like Ultinate Dubs and of course the NEC Classic Car Show. Check out the Diary Dates section where you'll find threads, info, and links for nearly them all.

The Diary Dates Google Map is also well worth a look.

:beers:
