any sugestions where to get a respray at a reasonable price?

Post by thefurryben »

Hi, currently working on getting my dreg gt 1.6 back on the road and at some point in the not to distant future i want to get it resprayed/ dusted over. its red and the paints gone realyu dull and flat and in a couple places mainly pannel edges (where i supect the previous owner over buffed)the white undercoat is showing through. has any one got any sugestions of where i could go to get an opinion of whether it can be saved by a dust over or if it'll need a propper spray and where i can get it done for a reasonable price, also any idea ruffly how much it should cost. Im in the tunbridge wells area of kent but dont mind travelling to get it done as long as its not to far.

There is a good bodyshop in Chelmsford (about a 60 mile drive!), the bloke that owns it is ex-VW so knows his stuff, called colin Hardwick.

i went to a place the other day that can wrap cars in vynyl (i think thats how you spell it) for 1200 quid. looks as good as paint in many different colours and even patterns and styles.
only thing they said was the bodywork has to be mint before wrapping as rust quickly spreads behind it if its allready there.
much cheaper overall i thought and at that price if you get bored in 5 years you could allways go back and get a different colour.
one more thing they said the wrap should last at least 7 years if used on a new car ( because of the no rot factor.).
the place i was looking at was in stirchly south birmingham but there are loads of places that do it all over the country.

Dude, didn't realise you're in Kent.

I live in Ashford so can be of help. Take a look at my build thread for bodywork and I can put you in contact with someone if you like it

After the "wrap in vinyl" thing came up I did a little exploring and found this.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Graphite-Grey ... 2eb847343d
According to the advert black and white lasts 8 years and colours last 7 years which is not too bad really if you are handy at all.
I may buy a roll and experiment on my polo once the weather improves.
