Should I be worried....

Post by Ashrocco »

I knew my clutch bearing had failed, but should I be concerned with the ammount of crap I found in the housing??

Also, i thought once I had removed the house the rod the bearing pushes against would slide out, but mine didn't. Is that right? :dunno:

nah it sounds seized to me. it should slide out with ease. this probly would give you a really stiff clutch peddle and be the cause of your bearing going maybe?
the shaft in my box was stiff, i took it out and lubed it with lots of gearbox oil and it made a fair bit of difference to my clutch at the peddle.

Depends on how many ball bearings you found! According to BrokeVW, (http://www.brokevw.com) the thrust bearing has anything from 6 to 8.

To get the pushrod out, with the gearbox in situ, you need to have first removed the actuation finger and the thrust bearing. You should then be able to see the pushrod.

However, if you pull the pushrod out without draining the oil, you may well find oil contaminating your clutch.
