Weitec Adjustable TX kit on my mk1 - it's the business.
I was running a bilstein shocks and springs, which handled great and gave a decent a drop - the Weitecs handle slightly better, give just as good a ride comfort-wise and it's dropped about 25-30mm more than the bilstein set-up = definitely worth it if you're keeping the car.

As most on here seem to vote for Wietec and I am keeping the car I am going for Weitec.

Now just to decide on Coily's or conventional

Complete 45 / 25 Wietec shocks and Eibach for around £450
Wietec Coil overs with fancy gas for around £450
Wietec Coil overs with Nitrogen gas for around £400

I am tempted to go with the Complete 45 / 25 drop conventional Wietec shocks and Eibach springs, at around £450 as I don't think I need adjustable.

Anyone got a a strong "No get the Coily's" or "Yes that should be fine" comments before I place an order ?

TBH I've not touched the height adjustment on mine since they were fitted.
I have adjusted the re-bound on the fronts though as they seemed way too stiff, and the car was prone to porpoising under braking around various Oxfordshire lanes...

I'd imagine that this wouldn't happen with a preset damper?

Just for anyone reading this in the future, Whilst looking around for the best place to buy my new suspension from I found a supplier of the complete Weitec non coil over setup for just £306.31 including free delivery :)

I always like these type of threads, when people think that 5-600 pounds is way too much money for quality dampers. you can have any engine you like, and tyre to a certain extent, but you just cannot get the power or traction down without a decent suspension set up.

I know its a different concept but having raced dh bikes for years, the small changes to rebound or compression at high/low speeds makes a huge difference to the handling and grip. Add to that just the forks cost me £800 on trade! Then it seems that 600 pounds for 4 dampers is a steal! haha.

i had the ebay jobbies on the first rocco, was a fun drive, but couldnt get the power down in the lanes as i wished. however, my current rocco has weitec hicon-tx+ dampers with adjustable compression. these are spotty dog for me and my driving style. id still like to try a decent shocks and spring set up though...

Aye, it was when I just forked out £220 for a set of Pirelli P6000's ( to go with the Pirelli P Slots :) ) that, plus the advice on here, led me to decide not to go all ebay cheapy, but to shell out on the Weitec gear

Bear in mind that any shock/spring kit will not include a front strut housing. You'll have to disassemble the front and rear suspension with coil spring compressors first and then try to open the front strut housing - which is usually a pig of a job.

Personally, it's worth the extra money for coilovers just to avoid doing that job. Assuming you're buying new top mounts and rear rubbers, and the bolts play ball, you can do a complete swap in less than an hour (40 mins is my record).

I will not be be fitting these myself, a local VW Gti type garage will be doing it (I always use them for jobs I don't fancy doing) so any extra "hassle" fitting suspension will cost me money. With that in mind and what has been said about the Wietec TX coil overs, perhaps I should spend the extra on them and on the other side of the coin, save on the labour charge !

OK, off now to find a best price on the Wietec TX coil overs, feck this has got more long winded than I ever imagined, but I am enjoying the info coming onto this thread !

stop justifying yourself haha. the scirocco is a brilliant sports chassis to play with, enjoy it, don't let it be a statue/show queen. you'll just be getting more fun from it this way.

Yes, you will need to have the camber and tracking set up properly.

Just to conclude this thread (for me anyway).

In the end I went with the advice of Central VW (who did the job) and so far I am not disappointed.

They fitted Eibach springs with a 30mm drop front and rear (don't know where they got them, I did not see that version listed anywhere ?)
They fitted Sachs shocks & inserts, new top mounts, bump stops and ARB mountings.
Interesting that when I mentioned shorter shocks they were adamant that at this amount of drop, shorter shocks are not required. (and they have been doing Golf's and Rocco's etc for many years)
The car also now has 4 new P6000's, new discs, pads, drums, shoes, cylinders, fluid and h/brake cables.

Cost for all above (including £220 for tyres) = £900

Apparently I am to take it back in after around 500 miles to get the geometry checked as I am told it "settles" somewhat after bedding in.

Handling is greatly improved but hard to be subjective as the old set-up was tired, esp at the rear.

Gills 92 GTII seems to be pretty much the same height as mine, don't know what gear is on that car, looks original kit but might not be.
Mine seems stiffer than Gills (but not "bangy") but I wouldn't say it actually handles any better than Gills (which handles great) on our twisty country B roads.

btw, to those who said Wietec TX's are the way, I know you are right, but I simply could not justify the £650 plus fitting, plus all the costs of the other work done (brakes, tyres etc as above).
It would have taken the money invested in this (new to me) car to over £2500 and it wouldn't then be over (is it ever ;) )
I am sure around a track the Wietec boys would have the edge but hey ho ;)

Before you Do anything else buy a lower front strut brace. You will not believe the difference


Suspension wise it sounds like youre happy and at the end of the day that's what counts. I've got to be honest, part of the reason I went for weitec was because I run it very low.

Great minds think alike :) I already bought an OMP one off ebay (£40) that came with a large FREE umbrella !!

Central VW said 2 things re that =
They would prefer to let the new suspension "settle" before fitting it
and I would be able to evaluate the new suspension set up first, then be able to make a better judgement as to what difference the strut brace makes after I have got used to the difference the new suspension was like without strut brace. (that bit does make sense I reckon :) )

btw, will a lower strut brace reduce scuttle shake ? (as I think I have a bit of summat like that, either that or...)

What's the difference between the GT and TX Weitec coilovers?

I'm in the same boat, tired suspension but want something easy to fit as poss that improves handling without being too harsh. Gonna be keeping car. Lower front than back too.
