But GSF web site is a right pain, you need to register to look online, Euro car parts is ALOT easier to use and free delivery they seem to list lots of them (under Drive belts) so might be worth a phone call to check to part number.

You'd be suprised how competitive your VW dealer could be.
I know that if you have a DX engine, 1.8i then I believe you need:
050 903 137. Should cost £9.97 + the Vodka And Tonic.
(might be the same for other models)

decent branded alternator belt should cost less than a fiver from a decent factors, so you could get one to fit and a spare to carry in the boot for less than the dealer will charge.

they are cheap on some things though

That's another reason to go to Euro over GSF. Euro stock Continental belts, the last one I had from GSF was a Gayco or something.

The tools came with the car, 10/13mm spanner and a double ended screwdriver. It's amazing how much of the car you can take apart with them.
