Greetings
Been out of the Scirocco game for a while, however I'm back . This time I've gone for a GTX as my painful project. Not to worry however she does have a few issues.
Right she is running an Audi tall block 2 litre(3A if think) married to a Golf PB head and fast road cam, don't know the profile yet.
I am having real issues getting any decent gear selection without trying to smash the stick shift into the windscreen. Went under the car yesterday to check the selector and set that up iaw the haynes manual. Didn't make much difference. Next I checked the clutch cable, noticed there was no free play in it, adjusted this so that I really did have no free play and bingo I could select gears although still not smoothly tbh. When I do set up the clutch to give 12mm or so of free play the cable is very loose in the footwell and drops to the floor. From observations she has just recently had a bulkhead repair plate slapped on her from GSF and a new cable. Toying with a complete refurb of the gear selector bits however I am now concerned that the clutch is gubbed, when adjusted up so that I get gears I get quite bit of slip when accelerating.
Anyone else suffered from this at all?
Rob

This to me sounds like clutch is on it's way out.when adjusted up so that I get gears I get quite bit of slip when accelerating.
Afraid I can't help much as it is not a standard engine / gearbox setup you have but I'm sure someone on here will be able to help you.
If you get stuck I'm not far away from you, possibly just across the river so feel free to pm me and we can maybe arrange something.
MacColl and I hope to go to this meet in Braehead if you can make it along http://www.scottishvag.com/ it would be good to meet you.
Meet attendance depends on me solving oil problem I'm having just now.

Sorry I missed this bit out earlier.
It's in the West (Glasgow) section on here.. Can't get a direct link?

Re: Horrible gear selection
Cheers for the quick reply.
My missus is looking in total shock and awe at why I keep going back to the Scirocco.....she really doesn't understand. I have a horrible feeling you are right about said clutch. I'll have a go at getting to the meet. Wednesday night might be an issue though.
On the bright side I've established it is a Piper Cam with a 270 profile fitted, should be quite potent when set up right. I'm beginning to wonder if they beefed up the transmission/clutch at all when they first fitted it.

Re: Horrible gear selection
After one very wet weekend in the drive,
The clutch came off along with the Gearbox. Lots of Friction plate still there although was showing signs of burning up. Bolted it all back together with a new nicely balanced pressure plate and flywheel married to a 16v gearbox and bang no difference!
Umm..... Got the kid to sit in the car and exercise the pedal and wallah the problem revealed itself. The repair plate on the bulkhead was flexing big time. Only got one word for the stick on repair plates from GSF/Eurocarparts etc...Crap! Making a nice new plate at work now and the welder is coming out. Lordy Lord only had the car two weeks and already I've changed the clutch/flywheel/gearbox/selector bushes/Rocker cover seals and now I'm moving onto the inlet manifold, other jobs coming soon include both doors, removal of the most annoying alarm in Scotland a Raceland manifold and 2.5" Jetex exhaust...Oh and the radio is having a nice shiny new aerial attached to it.....Good to be back in Scirocco land

Re: Horrible gear selection
Getting there with the old girl...
Clutch done, new cable on , plate fixed to bulkhead (not sure how long this is going to last though) Raceland exhaust on (they do fit the tall blocks with no issues!) and married to a 2.5 " Jetex exhaust(best fitting exhaust I have ever put on a Scirocco!) although the bore between the manifold and the middle box didn't want to play so the welder came out!
When's the next meet bud?
