Make nice Karmann badges

Make nice Karmann badges

The Karmann badges on the side look a bit tired, so whilst its raining and I can't do anything outside I thought I'd have a go a doing up these badges.

I used some Warhammer paints that were lying around (chainmail silver) and it turned out like this

Image

A bit of clear lacquer and they look mint.

Lovely work on these, i went for the 'Dr Dub' approach of covering them in aluminium foil and cutting around it, but I suspect yours is a neater job. If you're used to painting Warhammer models this will have been a walk in the park anyway!

I think any old Scirocco needs old-style plates as well: with the pre-2001 full width font and no Euro flag on the left. That's me being really anal, of course...

Gear linkage

Gear linkage

Image

I did the gear linkage yesterday. The long piece with a bend in looked okay, but the short piece was knackered. Its amazing how just one piece makes the whole thing play like mad.

Image

It was easy to pop off the old one and very difficult to put the new one on. Adjusted the position and now it gets all the gears really smooth.

Image

Cool!

HI Josh

Glad to see more progress and hope it goes well.
And yes - you need to work on the pig smell.... :nerner:
Don't forget if you do find a problem with the drivers window wiring/motor etc - I have spares for this car still (somewhere...)

Very nice retro brown on brown look :good:

Check this site for leather refurbishment products, a guy on Club GTI had used there stuff (Old mac Rocco mate you might be interested also)..

Did you do a full gear linkage replacement, like all the bushes etc? was it straight forward?

The drivers side window isn't working. The motor just clicks when you press the button. I took the gear box part attached to the motor apart and quickly regretted it... but its back together and wasn't stuck... The motor actually turns when not attached to the gear box bit, but its really easy to stop with your fingers.. doesn't feel like theres enough torque move the weight of the window. So yeah.. If you can find them  It would be much appreciated!

Theres a company in Todmorden near where I live who do a similar thing.. although its more expensive than that :L I'll probably take a punt at that one for only 25 quid

I had my front seats on my Storm refurbished by Furniture Clinic, they did a great job, that was 2 and a half years ago and still looking good.

Bonnet flying incident

Post by joshiggins »

There was a small incident a couple of week ago..... my bonnet decided it would prefer to fly instead of stay closed :hehe:

Was only going about 45/50 mph but it blew up and over the windscreen and went bang!

Luckily it didn't damage the roof or top of the screen which I couldn't believe... it would appear the cause was the safety catch. The spring had flicked backwards so was not holding the catch closed. Must have gone over a bump which bumped the bonnet up and then the wind has taken it over.

The scuttle panel below the windscreen was bent upwards and folded at both sides where the hinges are. It also broke a spot weld and pulled the panel up from under the wing at both sides. The hinges are bent so I need some new ones too!

The damage......

Image

Luckily I spend my saturday mornings at a body shop, so we managed to bend it back pretty good and weld

Image

Almost perfect!
