Gear selction problem :(

Post by smallan »

Right, BIG problem.

Took my car to chesterfield on Friday afternoon and on way the in traffic had problems selecting 1st and the sometimes 2nd. But now it grinds its way into reverse and then won't go into any gears when car is running.

I can how ever turn the car off and put it into gear then drive BUT even with my foot on the clutch the car will drive by itself. Confused the hell out of me.

Any ideas? Could it be clutch cable or gear linkages. Can't be clutch as I fitted that not too long ago.

Any help would be great. :D

Check where the cable goes through the bulkhead. It sounds like it's pulled through so you can't release the clutch any more.

I think repair plates are still available from places like GSF.

Just for your info tim so you know ive sorted it out.

It wasnt the clutch cable and it wasnt the bushes. It was in fact that after id fitted a new cluth about a month ago, somehow the bolts for the pressure plate had worked there way loose from the block and were pressing up agaist the release plate.

Thanks for the info tho and have purchased the plate and will be going on so it doesnt go in the futre.

Cheers.

Glad you got to the bottom of the problem. Not heard of that one before though. Did the bolts have any sort of threadlock on them and did you torque them up?

No i didnt have any locktight on the threads first time round but they have now. But i used my 1/2 air gun to put them in and then checked with socket and ratchet and were as we call it FT.

So my advise would be to locktight them in and also check gearlinkage bushes whilst doing the clutch as I found that the gear change is alot smoother now.

cheers
