Front suspension mounts. '88 GT2

Post by KB88 »

My Rocco has been in the hospital for a week now.
The bill is racking up as i had the rear axle replaced which in turn required brake lines to be replaced, a rear shock absorber fitted and some fixings replaced.
The car is now fine but the front top suspension mounts (think that’s what have gone) need replacing. I have a low knocking noise from these being shot.

The mechanic said I could probably do this myself to save money, but i don’t have experience here. Especially not clamping up a shocker.
To do this job, what’s involved? Am i going to lose fingers easily? What do i need?

Thanks guys :good:

In terms of "special" tools, a pair of spring clamps, an offset 22 mm ring spanner and and allen key (I can't remember what size) preferably on a socket to fit in the top of the strut to undo the top nut. That should be it.

Just remember to loosen off the strut top nuts before jacking the car up, but don't take them off. You'll need to get your tracking and camber setup again after pulling the struts off.

Im in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire mate.
Thanks for the offer, if you’re not too far away that would be great. Defiantly sort beers or cash for the trouble.
I’m talking with my mechanic tonight, if he can do it reasonably then maybe i use him.

Cheers :good:
