Hope you get a solution mate :good:

I'm aware that your car had sat in the seriously cold winter permafrost that we had and a core plug had actually popped out. Although different there might be a cold weather factor at play here.Hope cleaning the gauze is all it will take :beg:

Think you should prime the pump before fitting from reading guides on this also.

Did you get my PM? I'll be in touch :good:

I've now got gasket and collecting oil tomorrow.
Sump completely cleaned out and painted ready to fit.
Sussed out how to prime pump and it is pulling oil up through the pickup so hopefully a new pump (£54ish) won't be required.
Going to fill and run tomorrow so fingers crossed.
If all works out well should be ready for scotvag meet on the 31st.
I''l keep you informed.

Gaskets are just over £15.00 from Eurocarparts.
Don't know if you can get them cheaper elsewhere.
As a matter of interest will a pump from a 1.8 injection fit a 1.6 carb ????????
All systems go for Wednesday.

Just an update and a thank you to all.
My baby has now three trips, at various speeds, to Glasgow and back, (roughly 46miles), under her belt and shows no signs of any oil problems.
Many thanks to all who helped me out with advice etc. :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou:
It was ALL appreciated very much indeed. :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou:

I would second the replacment oil pump. NOT worth the risk of reusing one from my recent experience!!
I'd put a new pump on (should get one from VWspares or Germanautoparts, I would recommend the Febi one) around £45.

Prime it first, and then put it all back together. Turn over with the spark plugs disconnected until oil light out, then start.
Run it with a new oil and filter, drain and refill!

Good luck with it.
