As far as I'm concerned, the basic rule of convertibles is: never buy a convertible that wasn't designed as such from scratch by the manufacturer. This rules out nearly everything except the occasional roadster (MX-5, MR2, Elise etc). Anything else is, as you say, going to be less stiff, heavier and slower.

horses for courses and all that jazz, I would have one tomorrow.. Thinking of selling the VR for such a car :chill: maybe....

loved mine when i had it...
come on gang..
rare as rockin horse manure.
always turned heads.
and imageine... being in a scirocco.. converible.. out on the roads in the sun...
twas great man...
not a rocco that was all about racing.. I have the VR6 for that... :-)
but something else..more mature i guess? ( hey when did i get old!!)

but hey ho...
it went to a good home for the restoration i couldnt afford.. :-)

I kinda like the mk2....cant make my mind up about the mk1 though. i think the colour and wheels make the mk2 stand out.

I had a Storm mk2 convertible... Had it converted in Exeter Devon, it was a B reg and went like greased weasel sh#t... Absolutely loved it ... It certainly turned heads and wished I still had it.. The only down side was that when the hood was down it became a 2 seater. It didn't have much of a twist as the conversion people pit a bar between the two inside front arches that crossed the engine.. I hear now it's quite a rare car ... Oh well :(
