Hi all,
Was hoping to try starting the engine today that got fitted last weekend, to see if my first rebuild actually works...
But disaster whilst refitting driveshafts!
When removing them originally, I had a couple of bolts with stripped heads. Can't remember how I managed to get them out! (thought it involved hammering a socket onto it and turning out, but tried that and it wont work this time).
I decided to replace most of the bolts as some were in a poor state after this, and bought them from GSF.
This might have been a mistake, because they seem a lot "softer" than the originals. And more worryingly when I came to refit them, most of the replacement bolts refuse to torque to 45nm spec as per the haynes. They just keep turning!
I'm really hoping it's not damaged the driveshaft flanges as not sure how to replace.
Any comments welcome. Has anyone else had problems with GSF driveshaft bolts? Apart from VW dealer, anywhere else to get good ones?
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Stripped driveshaft bolts - GSF replacements
take one of them out and have a look at it. it may have stripped out the head again, you might have a chewed up thread, or it might have chewed the thread inside the gearbox ear.
you should get replacements from any fastener supplier
