I've got these Boge inserts that have been sitting about for a few years but unused. The thing that concerns me is they don't seem to return to a fully extended position?

I phoned GSF and established from the codes that they are oil filled and the guy said that they should be fine and there age shouldn't effect anything.

Can anyone confirm that they are ok? As far as I know they will fit into original struts and I have new caps with them.

Hi Mac, They should be ok as long as they aren't leaking. You should work them 20 or 30 times before fitting anyway, and when the springs are fitted to the struts as long as you can get the centre nut on to the top mount ok then the cars weight when you go over a bump will do the rest. Don't forget to put some oil in the strut body before fitting the insert, this helps cooling when it is working hard. Put the insert in and let the oil overflow then take a small bit of oil out then put the cap on. :yup:

Are they actually a matched pair - the labels look different.

If they're still in one piece and not leaking, they're worth trying out. Sometimes the seals perish if they've been lying for many years. It's pretty hit and miss though.

If you search for the part no 27-229-0 you'll see it is for basically 1600's.

I assume that the p/n on the bottom shock 1-0691-27-229-0 is the same as the top. :dunno:

Cheers for the advice folks,

They are both the same just one has a sticker. They seem in perfect condition/no corrosion etc. I suppose I'll just try them maybe push them in and out a good few times just before I fit them. I'll make sure I have a source to get new ones if they don't seem to be effective.

Just gathering parts to sort front end hopefully before the national.
