Youve got the bar the right way up right?

Seem to remember (but please respect my age? ) that exhausts for cars without roll bars were a bit different? They weren't shaped to allow for the roll bar, (might be talking complete twaddle) so that could be part of it? probably worth looking at the diagrams on the parts web site.

The tips should point slightly down, and the bend in the middle should also be down... I think!

I've just fitted an arb to my GT (non arb fitted as standard), with no problems, exhaust very very close, but not quite touching!

Jay.

The GT doesn't have a kink in the downpipe to clear an ARB. I fitted front ARB to mine, and found that the exhaust would vibrate on the rollbar at certain revs which was very annoying, so i replaced the downpipe for one with the kink fro the 1.8/injection models which solved the problem. i think most of the stainless ones have the kink built in as they are mainly advertised for 1.8/gti/gtx etc.

...or my engine mounts were shot, allowing more movement of the exhaust downpipe onto the ARB? :dunno: Either way, it's a bit snug without the kink in the downpipe!

Quite hard to make out but this is how it should look when fitted

Image

The ends should be pushing down onto the wishbones

and the kink in the bar faces the floor - its not much of a bend but is noticable when its on the car!
